Kasi Flavour
For the love of the show me your number to the spy two and everything in between. Football, Fashion, and the Heartbeat of the Township.
Now if you know ball you’ll instantly know what this brand represents and what it means to so many in this country. Who from ncu times were always glued to their screens when Orlando Pirates took on Kaizer Chiefs, in the infamous Soweto Derby. Way before the Carling Black Label Cup was even a thing. This brand brings back that very nostalgia, not only for my generation but for many before mine. This is a true icon in the making. From organic photoshoot concepts down to selective locations and model selections. Kasi Flavour has it on complete lock. Just like the midfield maestro, 16 V once patterned the midfield for Amakhosi. This brand is orchestrating a movement, one rooted in culture, memory, and the future of South African style. hope you enjoy this one as much as I did penning it.
Brand Essence
Now don’t let my intro go over your head, this brand isn’t just out here selling you screen printed football shirts and calling it a day. There is a clear brand vision rooted in love for football culture, but also a deep love for what I call township romanticism: the pride, resilience, and everyday creativity born in South Africa’s townships.
It’s an intrinsically deep South African concept. Engulfed in immense amounts of history and love for fashion and sports. These two pillars of township flavour represent not only pride, but hope. Even during the country’s darkest times, the township heartbeat never slowed down. It’s where music, style, and sport collided to produce icons. Kasi Flavour taps directly into that history, reminding us that football kits are more than uniforms, they’re memories stitched into fabric.
This rich history is where Kasi Flavor gets its edge and draws so much influence from. The garms serve as reminders of past kits we all enjoyed and loved seeing on our screens. They’ve been given new life, reconstructed and told using materials and designs you wouldn’t otherwise associate with football. Take for example, one of my standout pieces the “Kasi Flavour Classic Knit Bench Jacket” constructed using knit. Like many of the pieces by Kasi Flavour. But it’s been done in such a way that combines two worlds: fashion and football seamlessly.

Vision in motion
At the center of it all is founder and creative director Kabelo Kungwane, whose love for both football and fashion bleeds through every detail. His vision doesn’t just revive memories, but it builds a new world, one where township culture and global fashion speak the same language.
What excites me most is the timing. Kasi Flavour arrives at a moment when South African football is surging. Clubs like Sundowns are taking on football giants like Dortmund in international tournaments, Bafana Bafana regaining rhythm and on the verge of qualifying for the World cup. And when local fashion is commanding the global stage through visionaries like Thebe Magugu. Kungwane and Kasi Flavour are carving a place in that landscape, reminding us that football style is South African style.
The Future
This is bigger than nostalgia. Kasi Flavour is capturing the essence of who we are not just as fans, but as creators of culture. It’s football as memory, fashion as identity, and township life as art.
In time, I believe Kasi Flavour won’t just be seen as a brand. It will be recognized internationally as a taste maker that honors the past, celebrates the present, and pushes South African creativity into the future.
